Favorite Pinoy Indie Film

[ first blog post ko ‘to in Filipino kaya nae-excite ako ]

Continue reading Favorite Pinoy Indie Film

Takeaways from the book, I Declare

Ciao! It’s Chams. Welcome back to my blog.

It’s been a while since I last posted an inspirational blog for you all. I was overwhelmed with the amount of positive responses from my Sunday Devotional and how it helped others to get through their daily struggle and how it reminded them of His love. For today’s post, I want to share with you excerpts and some of my learning from Joel Osteen’s book, I Declare. It has 31 different promises to speak over each day and will help you be in a positive state of mind as well as strengthening your faith in God. Portrait Sessions Vol. I

Ciao! It’s Chams.

If you’ve been following me around, you’ll know that I am really into portraits. I made a post about my portrait photography story before and this time, I’m so excited to share with you all another set of photos I took.

So, I just bought my first prime lens earlier this week and I’m really excited to do some test shots. It is a Canon 50mm f1.8 prime lens that I bought for a very cheap price. As usual, I asked my friend Pauline to shoot with me. We didn’t have any location in mind, so we just randomly took photos on the mall we were in.

Luckily, we found Timezone and the lights from the arcade were so beautiful! The neon lights really gave out life in every photos. I was really trying to edit like Brandon Woelfel but this is all that I can come up with. Continue reading Portrait Sessions Vol. I

Mini Make-Up Stash

Ciao, it’s Chams!

Welcome back to my blog! This is going to be quick though.

Yesterday, my sister and I went out to buy new make-up products because we ran out of our essentials. Basically, we share the same stuff all the time, and I think that’s pretty normal for anyone who has a sister.

What I got

Processed with VSCO with k3 preset

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Matte + Poreless

[ in the shade 220 – Natural Beige ]

I’ve been seeing this product all over lately and the reviews were all great! This is almost comparable to the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte, though they have their own pros and cons in terms of the matte finish and their coverage. We were really planning to get the Infallible, but it wasn’t on Sale so we got Fit Me instead. But we have no regrets, this product is amazing and it’s definitely worth the price. It also has better finish after you bake it with translucent powder. Must try!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

[ in the shade 35 – Deep ]

To be honest, this is my first time owning a concealer. I know, I know, don’t judge me. I’m 22, and this is my first time getting a concealer. But, I fell in love with this product right away! It really hides my pimple marks and other discolorations on my face. The sales lady asked me to get a shade slightly darker than my skin tone to provide more coverage. I always thought you have to choose the lighter one. Haha I’m not really a beauty expert, why the heck am I doing this.

Nichido True Colors Collection Powder Blush

[ in the shade Cool Rum ]

I always love buying Nichido blush powders, not only because it’s affordable, but because it’s long lasting! Nichido is actually my favourite drug store make-up because of it’s quality and value for money. The shade is a bit peachy, since peachy blush works best on my skin tone unlike the pink ones.

Aido Travel Kit Eyeshadow Palette

[ Color # 2 ]

It was not really in my head to buy an eyeshadow palette, but I saw this one and it’s super cheap and the colors are awesome! It includes 6 neutral eyeshadow colors perfect for a natural make-up look. It also comes with 2 blush powders. This is super ideal for travelling because you don’t have to bring multiple palettes for blush and eyeshadows. The colors are pigmented too and they really blend well.

I think these products will be my go-to make-up for this month of August! Hope you like this one! 🙂

I’m so excited to go out of the house just so I could use my new make-up heehee

I found some cringey old photos of me

While I was thinking for new blog post ideas, I came across a folder on my laptop. It was a file storage of my photos back in 2013 when I first got my iPod touch 5. I found some cringe-worthy photos of me and other photos which I find very funny and made me feel nostalgic. And since it’s also Thursday, might as well do a little throwback.

The birthday surprise

It was February (2013), We had classes during my birthday and my college friends surprised me with a box full of cupcakes with toppers which has pictures of my favorite band dudes. I was really in shock when they gave this to me, especially when they chipped in money to buy me an All Time Low Straight to DVD! That was so sweet of them. Aww.

That creepy girl

(Left) My very first plane ride. Nothing much, but you can see through me how excited I was at that moment. Pure bliss. LOL.

(Right) While we were cleaning at home, we found Mom’s wedding dress! It was all lacey and it looked really conservative. So I tried to fit the whole thing, including the veil. It looked really creepy on me, I don’t know why. I have a scary picture with this dress but might as well not post it here or I might scare y’all away. Haha

Meeting my favorite band

I met my favorite band, A Rocket to the Moon! It was during their very last show here in Manila (because the band has split up), and I was so happy to finally meet them up close! I got a hug from everyone, but the most memorable was my hug with Halvo (Eric Halvorsen, bassist). I even had a selfie with him. He’s so cute! Me? Meh.

Rainbow head

I tried on different hair colors during college, I started off with Atomic Turquoise, then Blonde, and finally, Lavender Blue. My parents were really against it, but being the rebel kid that I was, I still dyed my hair. Looking back, I feel proud that I managed to pull this off even just for a short time. 🙂

Crazy friends

We are Bahamas. But before we get to the part where I explain why we’re called Bahamas, I’ll first talk about why we all ended up being friends. Back in college (up to now), we really love listening to different bands, and because we love them, of course we also love the band guys. And we always have fangirl moments (fan fictions with the band guys LOL). Bahamas = watery/wet. IYKWIM.

Once a grumpy kid, always a grumpy kid

The ultimate throwback.

(Left) Mom told me I was having tantrums at that moment. I didn’t ask why I was having tantrums but I always find this picture funny.

(Right) Mom, Dad and I on the beach. I can still recall why I look so grumpy here. I was asking my Dad to ride the boat with me but he didn’t want to so I was really upset and I looked like this until we got home from the beach. Heh what a brat.

Since I wasn’t really sure of what to post on my blog, I ended up with this. But, this was fun! I was laughing the entire time while I was browsing through my old photos.

I also want to see some of your old photos and the stories behind those too!

Thank you for reading! 🙂

My Portrait Photography Story

Ciao! It’s Chams. I have been into photography lately, and I really love taking portraits. I just want to share with you all my portrait photography story. My inspirations, my style, and how I do it. 🙂

Getting inspirations

Before I started blogging, I was really a YouTube junkie. I always watch a lot of YouTubers, and one of my favorites is Nadine Felice. She is a Filipina YouTuber who does beauty, lifestyle, vlogs and pep talk videos. I always liked her content and aesthetics, then I came across to one of her vlogs where she did portrait photography with her friends. I became super interested with portrait photography so I tweeted her and asked, “Nades, how do you shoot portraits?!” Her reply was “Watch Jessica Whitaker on YouTube!” So, I immediately went over to Jessica’s channel and watched her videos. She does portrait photography behind-the-scenes videos and she shares her photography tips and tricks as well. I really like her style and her resourcefulness, because she does not use any photography accessories and her tutorials are fit for beginners like me.

Start of something new

camera used: Canon 1100D

After getting all the inspirations online, I tapped my good friend Pauline to shoot with me, because she’s also a photography enthusiast. We brought our own cameras and met up one afternoon. We literally had no idea how to start shooting, and we at least tried to do few poses at the mall parking lot before we head over to our target location. We did not expect that it would be that fun! We thought it would be really awkward at first, but we felt the opposite.

We started shooting at around 4 in the afternoon, photographers call it the “golden hour” because the sun gives off a redder and softer light in photos. Golden hour is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset. We really loved the natural light and how it really highlighted the photos we took.

As I’ve mentioned before, we started shooting at a mall parking lot to test-shot photos and to condition ourselves. It was an open parking space at the rooftop and we really liked it. We then moved to University of the Philippines and found a newly-built building with lots of cute walls. Good thing, there were few people there so the whole place was ours! Yay!

We didn’t really talked about our style before Pauline and I went for the shoot. But we kind of did retro aesthetic for this. She wore a white ringer tee, denim jeans and white sneakers that she paired with cute socks. I really liked her style, it was really simple but it gave out a nice statement. 🙂

Since I don’t have any fancy photo editing software, like Photoshop or Lightroom, I just processed the photos with VSCO with the free presets. I used C1 and P5 presets for some of the photos.

As beginners, we really think we did a great job and we also learned a lot from our first shoot. The struggle for me was my camera, because the camera I used is our 5-year old Canon 1100D, and the kit lens were a bit old and the autofocus is not working anymore. I really find it hard to use manual focus because of my blurry vision and sometimes, when the light is too bright. Nevertheless, it was really fun and I’ve learned a lot! I can’t wait to post more of my portrait stories. 🙂

Sunday Devotional

Ciao! It’s Chams. I would just like to share my favorite devotional at the moment. I don’t know, but maybe some of you might need this to get by your daily struggles. And, here is a little reminder that someone is in charge of your life. 🙂

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (NIV)

– Psalm 73:26

There is a great sense of comfort in this verse. God has planted Himself so deep in our hearts that we are forever His children. No matter what may happen to our bodies or how depressed we become, we can always depend on God to be our hope. Through Him we have overcome everything. If you find yourself weak, know that you have hope. He considers you to be precious and will always be there for you. Ask God to be your strength in your delicate times.

I hope you loved that devotional as much as I do. I actually got this devotional from “Devotion” on the App Store. The app is free, and I recommend you to get this as well because it really enriches your faith and reminds you everyday of His love. Happy Sunday! 🙂
